When my husband Dave Foster and I moved to the Third Ward in 1988, we chose it very intentionally as a place to raise our family. We were drawn to this community because of its diversity, cultural vibrancy, and unwavering commitment to public education. We sent our children, Matthew and Caroline, to Lincoln, Nichols and ETHS, where they enjoyed the highest quality education in a community that values tolerance and inclusion.

Public service runs deep in my bones.

I grew up in a family of public servants: my grandfather was a lifelong police officer, my father a career United States Navy Officer and my mother a military spouse. After graduating from Duke University with a B.A. in History, I worked in Washington, D.C. for a Democratic Congressman and for Common Cause.

I then moved to Chicago for law school at Northwestern University, after which I specialized in environmental law while also volunteering as a pro bono lawyer at the Howard Area Community Center, representing very low income clients facing eviction, divorce, spousal abuse, and cut-off of government benefits.

That's why I'm running for re-election as Alderman of the Third Ward.

  • I'm passionate about Evanston, its people and its promise.

  • I'm also acutely aware of our challenges, including the unmet promise of racial justice, soaring housing prices pushing families out of Evanston and a pandemic that has decimated our business community.

  • Working together, we can meet these challenges. But to do so, experienced leadership is critical.

  • I believe that I provide our community with the combination of experience, judgment and seasoned leadership skills that are imperative to meet this important moment in our City's history.
